Borehole

For over a decade now residents on the Akuapem Ridge have experienced perennial water shortage, despite assurances and promises from various quarters. This situation has adversely affected the operations of the Centre including service delivery to patients attending clinic at the Centre, production and laboratory activities

To address the problem, the Centre in 2006, acquired a brand new 8,500 litre capacity water tanker to supply water to the Centre.  However, the cost of running this service, especially whenever the Adukrom pumping station shuts down and water has to be obtained elsewhere has continued to place financial constraints on the Centre’s tight budget.

The Centre therefore had to take another bold step to ensure there is constant supply of water for its operations.
Messrs Water Market Ltd was thus awarded contract to sink a borehole, having successfully satisfied all procurement procedures and requirements. The cost of the project including a hydrofrac process was GHC 13,820 and was borne by the Centre from its internally generated funds.

The borehole is expected to deliver water at a discharge rate of at least 10 litres/ min, i.e.14,400 litres/day. The water quality has been tested and approved by Water Research Institute of the CSIR. It is hoped that until the rehabilitation of the water supply system on the Akwapim Ridge, the Centre would continue to benefit from the use of this facility.
